You are my inspiration✨

Have you ever met someone who inspires you?

Maybe you haven’t even met this person, but you just saw them and thought, “Wow, this person is incredible. They have so much strength and bravery, and I aspire to be just like them.”

—>This has happened to me twice now in the past few months and I just knew that I had to share my experiences with others, to show the world just how incredible of an experience it was.

As most of you know, working out has become a passion of mine over the past year and a half and I’m usually at the gym or completing a work out about 6-7 times a week. For me, working out has become not only a hobby, but a lifestyle and an outlet. Whenever I am upset or need to reflect on life I hit the gym, this is my place, as I believe we all have.

Anyway, about a week ago I was at the Planet Fitness by Chris’ house, going through my BBG workout on the mats like always, and I overheard a conversation. I was not trying to ease -drop, but the conversation was very obviously one to be out in the open, as an older gentleman complimented another man on his progress. He said that he ‘looked good and to keep up the good work.’ To this, the second man replied with a warm thank you and that now he was working on developing muscle. As most females would at the mention of a muscular man, I looked up from my plank and instantly recognized the second man.

About a month or two earlier I had met this man, as I was cleaning my mat. He had said hello to me, asked how my day was going and what my name was. I replied to him with a smile and told him that it was going well, that my name was McKenna and asked how he was. We talked for only a brief moment after that, and as he walked away I realized that he had a handicap.

Intrigued by his values and apparent love of the gym, I watched as he continued his workout, and that’s when I realized how much of an inspiration this man was. While you could tell that some things we a bit more difficult for him, than for others, it did not seem to take away his joy. He carried on with a great big smile on his face, and like all of us, continued on the road to reaching his goals.

In this way he was no different, he knew what he wanted and exactly how he would achieve it. Putting myself in his shoes, I’m not sure I’d have the strength he does. I can’t say that I would want to go the extra mile, to workout and better myself, and this is where I knew that he was much much braver than I am. He is my inspiration; my inspiration every time I ‘don’t feel like working out.’

While this man’s story may be one of a kind, he is not alone. He is one of the many individuals in and around my community who day in and day out are trying their best to succeed, to make themselves better, to reach their goal. Physical differences or not, these are the people who inspire me. These are the people who’s stories I love to hear; their fight to get to where they are.

The man I met at the gym is someone I will always admire, and  honestly I look forward to the next time we come across each other. He might not remember me, but I will always remember him; he is my inspiration

Busy Busy

Hey Lovelies!

Still can’t believe it’s summer & I’m officially a Junior in college! Crazy how time flies…

Anywhoooo, I’ve been pretty busy, with moving home and getting adjusted to my summer schedule, but hopefully from here on out I’ll be able to post 3-5 times a week (that’s my goal anyways.)

Week three of BBG started yesterday, and I’ve switched it up a little bit this week, due to having a day off (my first real day off in I don’t even know how long). Chris and I woke up early to go on a hike, which was pretty satisfying to say the least, unlike freezing my bum off while he played golf in the cold a few hours later. (fyi; don’t agree to golfing unless it’s AT LEAST 60+ degrees out…you’ll thank me later!)

After golfing we came home and I was able to clean a bit, then relax and catch up on both Vampire Diaries and Quantico! I finally go to start meal prepping for the week, which was surprisingly pretty fun and we grabbed some froyo before Chris had to go to work. All in all, it was a great first day off & summer has already been full of fun and its only just begun. Cant wait to see what the rest of summer holds!

Here’s my BBG schedule for the rest of the week:

*Tuesday ~Arms & Abs + 15 minutes on the treadmill

*Wednesday ~Legs & cardio + 15 minutes on the elliptical

*Thursday ~ 35 minute run

*Friday ~Full Body workout

*Saturday ~Ab workout + 25 minute run

*Sunday ~Rest day/Meal Prep

BBG Week 2

Hi Lovelies! Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone’s had a great day so far 🙂 I meant to post this yesterday, but have been so busy with finals that I never got around to it, anywhooooo; only one final left! Thursday is my last final of Sophomore year and I’m SUPER excited!

It’s day 2 of week 2, & I’m feeling pretty great! This morning I ran in the park and took the time for a long, relaxing stretch!

My goals this week are to pass my last final, move out of school for the summer and transition my workouts smoothly to a combination of at home workouts as well as gym based ones since I’ll have less availability to a gym. I’m also going to start meal prep this Saturday, so that should be exciting! I’m ready to get off to a clean start for summer. Bikini body here I come!

Here are this week’s workouts:

*Monday -legs & cardio + 15 on the elliptical
*Tuesday -early morning run + stretch
*Wednesday -arms & abs
*Thursday -45 minute walk or yoga
*Friday -Total body
*Saturday -rest day + meal prep
*Sunday -class or work on area that needs a little extra

TIPS:

*whenever working out I like stick to a sugary drink, like Powerade or water with energy mixes. This prevents my sugar levels from dropping too quick, during my workout & helps me get through to the end
*if this schedule doesn’t work for you, don’t be afraid to switch the days around!

Now that I’m going home I’m going to look into getting back into zumba and other classes at least once a week as a fun alternative!

Join me in taking on week two! We can do this! Let’s get fit for summer!

April Obsessions<3

Here are the products I’ve been obsessed with this month 🙂

Song: Wild Things by: Alessandra Cara I LOVEEEE THIS SONG

  1. Tea! I am a HUGE tea drinker, especially in the winter. I’ve recently found a few different brands that I love at Marshall’s, my current favorite is a coconut/vanilla sleep tea. I also found a sample variety pack that I LOVE. It was nice to try the 4 flavors at once, however I was not a fan of the Italian Chamomile, but that could just be the blend. My favorite for the summer is to add them to a water bottle like you would fruit. The tea quickly infuses into the water and you are left with a delicious & healthy drink

  2. Protein Bars! I’ve become pretty addicted to eating a protein bar for breakfast, after I hit the gym in the morning. My favorites are definitely Clif and Luna bars so far.
  3. Toning Water! The last time I went to LUSH I got a sample of their Eau Roma Water to use after I wash my face, and I absolutely LOVED it. I’ve used toners before, but they were always really harsh on my face. This toner, is super light and leaves your face smelling and feeling great. I’m definitely going to be buying a full size sample.
  4. Moisturizer! While at lush I also tried a sample of their Celestial and I love this as well! It smells so yummy, like a tropical oasis!
  5. Soap! I’m usually a strictly body wash girl, but Chris bought me some soap from lush for Christmas and OMG it smells SO GOOD! My advice is to definitely try their soaps!
  6. Julep Lipsticks; especially strut. LOVEEE  this color
  7. Konjac sponges; I got one of these in my julep box last month and was super surprised at how soft it was. It removes dirt and oils from your face as you wash and you can actually see it on the sponge. Kinda gross, but proves it works!
    • IMG_20160412_215753835-1
  8. Ipsy! This is a new monthly bag that I tried as of this month. It is $10/month for 5 sample makeup products in a new bag each month! The bags are super cute and the products are a great way to try something new you’ve been a little nervous to try. Hurry & get your may glambag now! Clickhere &Join me!

  9. VS sweatsuit! I used my rewards and a gift card from my brother to purchase these and I absolutely love them. The color is perfect and they’re great for my lazy study days
    • IMG_20160412_220304179
  10. White Tea & Apricot Scrub! This scrub is great for those who are both prone to acne
and have very sensitive skin. I use it every morning when I wake up 🙂

    • IMG_20160427_105009767_HDR
  11. Coconut Bay Yankee Candle! Usually I’m not a fan of how yankee candles burn because they take like 3 hours before you can smell them, but this candle burned so easily and smelled soo good😍
  12. Starbucks! Since working in the city and having a Starbucks around every corner and only a Dunkins every 5 miles, I’ve had to adapt. I will admit I now love their coffee and find it extremely hard to drink Dunkins because its so sweet
  13. Mini Diffusers! We sell these at work and the small ones are perfect for windowsills and tight spaces….until you spill them
    • IMG_20160427_105102479_HDR (This one is Pineapple Basil!)
  14. White Polish! I am currently obsessed with the way white polishes look. I’m not really sure why, but I can’t wait till my skin is tanned and the color POPS!
  15. Shampoo Bars! I’d wanted to try one of LUSH’s shampoo bars for a while, and for Christmas Chris bought me the Copperhead one. It smells amazing and is a great way to strip your hair once a week

There you have it! These are my 15 top favorites of April 🙂 Let me know what you think or if you’ve tried these products as well. Also, if you have any favorite products from last month, put a link in the comments so I can check them out! Happy Saturday😘

Round 2, Week 1; Day 3

Happy Hump Day!

Today’s day three of my second round of BBG & I have to say, I’m off to a pretty strong start! Yesterday I ran and took the time to do a good stretch. Stretching is so so so important & it’s good to not only stretch after a good workout, but to take the time every week to complete at least one in depth stretch. Sometimes I like to do yoga and then stretch instead of running for a more relaxing day.

imageAnywaaaaays, I took a few progression pictures this morning that show just a little bit of the progress I’ve seen from beginning to end of BBG round one. I think I’m going to take my measurements so I can track them during this journey as well. (If you visit Kayla’s website you’ll see some tips for both progression pics and taking your measurements 🙂

Plans for the rest of the week!
*Thursday -45 minute walk
*Friday -full body workout
*Saturday -15 minute run + any low
impact workout on areas that need attention

*Sunday -Rest day + (meal prep -I won’t start this until I’m out of school)

BBG Round 2; Week 1, Day 1

Today I was up at 5am to go the the gym early before work. I’ll admit, it was a little tough after sleeping in for the past two days in a row, but somehow I got theimagere. (even made some coffee for later when I crashed) haha

Anyways round 2, here I come! The Bikini Body Guide is one of the most productive workout programs I have ever done, and that’s coming from someone who has tried quite a few. I love Beach Body, and Tone It Up, especially, but BBG tops those, especially if you’re looking to build strength and endurance.

Week 1 (for me) Entails:
*Monday -legs & cardio
*Tuesday -30 minute run + stretching
*Wednesday -arms & abs
*Thursday -45 minute walk
*Friday -full body workout
*Saturday -15 minute run + any low impact workout on areas that need attention
*Sunday -Rest day + (meal prep -I won’t start this until I’m out of school)

These workouts can be extremely difficult, especially if your body isn’t used to being pushed, so it’s important to know your limits. You want to push yourself, but in a safe way. If you can only complete one round of circuits, then make them count! Everything comes with time! Don’t give up!

TIPS:
*I used the elliptical for 15 minutes before completing this workout, to get warmed up & I highly recommend just walking as a warm-up. This set is very draining and you do not want to lose energy before you start.

*Don’t forget to drink A LOT of water, your body will thank you later

*Protein is a must after exhausting these muscles (I love having a protein bar for breakfast after my workouts)

*Most importantly HAVE FUN!😘
